ASTORIA — Life Christian slammed Ilwaco 8-2 and 14-2 in a double header played under the lights at Astoria’s Columbia Memorial Hospital Field on Apr. 27. The Eagles no-hit the Fishermen in the five-inning nightcap.
The Eagles scored four runs before there were any outs in the first inning as the Fishermen struggled badly on defense. In the second, Brendan Kaman’s ground-rule double bounced under the fence and drove in a run to make it 5-0.
Despite getting nine hits and drawing seven walks, the Fishermen managed only two runs. Angel Dixon drove in a run with a bunt single in the second, but Ilwaco left the bases loaded in the inning. In the third, Chris Wood batted in Brandon McMullen but was thrown out at second on the play. The Fishermen left two more runners on that inning. Life Christian turned double plays in the fifth and seventh innings.
McMullen and Reese Tynkila each had two hits in the game, and Taylor Young had a single and drew three walks.
Xaviar Jonas pitched the first four innings of a combined no-hitter. Blowing his high fastball by hitters, he struck out nine. Ilwaco scratched out two runs off the bullpen in the fifth on walks and an error. The Eagles scored five in the third and five in the fifth in the 14-2 win.
Ilwaco fell to 5-5 in Pacific League play, fifth place in the seven-team league.
