CASTLE?ROCK - Cindy Pacheco finished fourth in the Trico League cross country meet and Leticia Cervantes was right behind her in fifth place at Castle Rock Oct. 19. Pacheco ran the course in 22:05 and Cervantes time was 22:27. Tanner Weidner was 14th for the boys in 18:50. The girls' team was third and the boys finished fourth in the league meet.

"The meet was held on a very hilly golf course. The course was challenging, but fun. Each coach got a golf cart to be able to go out on the course and coach during the race," coach Sarah Taylor said.

Raven Rogers was 15th for the girls in 24:08, Merissa Cass was 36th in 27:37, Elli Fox 41st in 31:56, and Rissa Gerke 42nd in 32:04. "Cindy ran very well and has put herself in a good position for the district meet. Leticia also had a great race. She has really cut her time down in the last few weeks and looks very strong. Raven had an awesome race with a huge personal best time. She ran really well and we are all very proud of her. Merissa ran well despite knee pain. Elli fell on the first hill and wasn't able to compete as well as she had hoped. Rissa ran well and really enjoyed the course. The girls did very well as a team. They ran competitively and ended up with a very good score," Taylor said.

For the Fishermen Owen Sutherland was 17th in 19:02, Andy Schott 19th in 19:06, Brandon Malmstadt 24th in 20:00, and Josh Schenk rounded out scoring in 30th in 20:43. Ben Ahlin was 32nd and Corbin Sutherland 35th and Eli Schenk was 10th and Seth Sexton 24th in the junior varsity race.

"The boys ran very well as a team. The top four came in very close to each other. Tanner had a great race. He has really been running well lately. Owen ran very well despite the cold he had been battling. Andy has an awesome race. He ran a huge PR and moved up very close to Owen. Brandon had a good race and will be ready for the district meet," Taylor related.

"Josh and Ben both ran very well. They really pushed each other particularly at the end. Corbin ran his best despite a twisted ankle. The team has really been coming together lately. Eli ran really well and it was great that he was in the top 10. He raced very well. Seth had a good race as well."

The Lady Fishermen will race at district at Evergreen State College at 1:40 p.m. and the Ilwaco boys will run at 2:20 p.m.
