During the month of March, third- and sixth-graders in the Ocean Beach School District will participate in a state-required assessment known as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The goal is 100 percent participation, and the district is asking parents to assist them in achieving this goal by making sure students are in school every day during testing.

Hilltop Elementary will conduct testing the week of March 8-12 and Ocean Beach Primary will test the week of March 15-18.

The Iowa Test of Basic Skills measures a student's knowledge in reading comprehension and vocabulary, mathematics, spelling, capitalization, usage and expression, and punctuation in a multiple-choice format. By using this standardized test, Ocean Beach students can be compared to other students and schools to other schools, giving the district an opportunity to compare our students in relation to a nationally represented student group.

Homeschooled students wishing to participate may contact the principal: Gary Flood at Hilltop, 642-8448 or Bette Arne at Ocean Beach Primary, 642-3242 for the testing schedule.
