Prize donations make fishermen - of Fishermen

ILWACO - The Peninsula Youth Baseball golf tournament winners made a quartet of Ilwaco High School athletes very happy by donating their prize of four sturgeon fishing trips on Coho Charters to the young men.

Thursday, Colten and Cody Chalker, Geoff Hylton, and C.J. Hawkinson, all sophomores-to-be at IHS, went fishing with Butch Smith aboard the Coho King. The four young fishermen each brought in sturgeon of 48 inches or more, with Colten Chalker boating the biggest one, a 53-inch monster.

Greg Chalker, Dale Tracy, Mark Binion, and Craig Hawkinson were the skilled golfers who won the PYB golf tourney and who made four very lucky fishermen thankful for a fortuitous free fishing trip.

Butch Smith, skipper of the Coho King, said 11 fishers limited on his boat Thursday by 8:15 a.m.

"The kids each got a nice fish to take home and they also had the privilege of watching another passenger reel in a 9-plus footer that we were able to release unharmed."

Four golfers and four youthful fishermen were all winners, thanks to the Peninsula Youth Baseball organizers. Youth baseball and softball on the Peninsula from T-ball through Babe Ruth teams also were winners as proceeds from the golf tourney went to help support the two sports locally.
