LONG BEACH - In a winner-to-district, loser-out game Rainier erupted for 10 runs in the sixth inning to eliminate Ilwaco 15-4 in a Trico-Evergreen League pigtail game in Long Beach Monday. The Lady Mountaineers had taken a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but the Lady Fishermen answered with four of their own to knot the score.

Two walks set up Elleigh Kaino's RBI single in the second and another walk and hit batsmen Logan Manecke and Aimee Banuet brought home two more before Ashley Tapio's walk tied the score. Kady Kirby's long double to center and Manecke's single in the fifth were Ilwaco's only other base hits in the game.

Seniors Tapio, Banuet, Kelsey Madsen, and Erin Kelly played their final softball games for Ilwaco. Coach Rick Bishop said, "Our four seniors contributed a great deal to our program the four years they played. I appreciate their efforts." He concluded, "The sixth inning was a microcosm of our season. Too many walks and errors were our downfall."

Rainier had but four hits to score their 15 runs, but 15 bases on balls and four Ilwaco errors aided their cause. The Lady Fishermen finish their season with a 7-12 record. The Lady Mounties were fifth in the Evergreen League and Ilwaco fourth in the Trico. Rainier will open district play Wednesday against Onalaska.
