Ross Kukula in first, Ilwaco feasting at District IV tourney

Ross Kukula

KELSO - Ilwaco is clearly in the driver's seat in the District IV golf tournament after one day at Kelso's Three Rivers Course. Ross Kukula, who was last years district champion, is the leader with a 68, Patrick Whealdon is third with a 72, Clark Wilson and Ryan Kukula are tied for fourth with 73's and Anthony Yoder is in sixth place with a round of 74.

Ryan Tapio is in 12th place with an 83 and it is probable that the top 16 golfers from District IV will qualify for the state tournament next spring. Wilson fired a 32 on the back nine and Yoder shot a blistering 34 on the front nine as sophomores for the Fishermen. Ross Kukula is also a sophomore.

Ridgefield's Brett Johnson is the only golfer not a Fishermen in the top six with a 71. Ilwaco has won the last five district tournaments and it looks like Tuesday's round will give them their unprecedented sixth straight title.
