ILWACO — For most of the past decade, Ilwaco’s golf program has relied on a Kukula brother or two to keep the team competitive. Ryan came on the scene in 2008, Ross brought home the school’s only individual state title in 2013, and Blake will be around until 2020. Unsurprisingly, Ryan and Ross have both carved out legacies at the next level. All three brothers just had big weekends.

Ryan, who golfed for Willamette University and served as their coach after graduating, has committed himself to pursuing a professional career. He played his first tournament as a professional Friday through Sunday, the Parker Open in Parker, Nevada, where he shot a 217.

Ross, now in his senior year at Seattle University, helped the team win the WAC championship at a three-day tournament in Mesa, Arizona. Kukula shot 74-72-74, tied for 11th individually, helping the Redhawks win by four strokes and advance to NCAA Regionals. He plans on pursuing a career as a college coach.

Blake, an Ilwaco High School freshman, finished third among 14-15 year-olds at the Washington Junior Golf Association’s Eastern Open at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
