RAYMOND - Naselle romped to a 25-2 second period advantage and roared past a resilient Raymond team 75-30 there Friday in a Pacific 2B League contest. The win assures the Comets of at least a tie for their third straight league title, a feat last accomplished from 1997 through 1999.

The Gulls, whose post player Max Murdock passed away last week, came out strong and was within 11-10 midway through the first quarter when the Comets ignited. Leo Mendoza led Naselle with 17 points, Manny Lopez continues to stay hot with 16 points, and Devin Thompson rolled in a career-high dozen points in a reserve role as 11 players saw extensive action.

The Comets were 31-53 from the field for a season-high 59 percent and 8-13 from the line for 62 percent, while the Gulls were 12-49 for 24 percent and 5-11 from the charity stripe for 45 percent. Naselle is now 9-2 in league play and 15-4 overall, while Raymond is 2-9 in the Pacific and 3-15 for the season. The Comets JV team also was victorious.
