WASHINGTON - District IV teams did extremely well on the diamond this weekend, to say the least. Softball continues to be "owned" by Southwest Washington squads as Adna, PeEll and Mossyrock finished one-two-three in the 2B classification, in which Naselle competes.
Ilwaco faced all three teams over the last two seasons that swept the one-two-three trifecta in 1A softball at the state level. Montesano out-scored their opponents by an amazing 50-1 margin as they for the second year in a row defeated Castle Rock for the title. The Lady Rockets hadn't allowed a run in their first three games at state. Onalaska was third.
Kalama finished second to Naches Valley in the baseball 1A state tournament as their ace pitcher of Sports Illustrated fame, Nick LaRoy, suffered an elbow injury and was unable to pitch in the state finals. Northwest Christian of Lacey, who Naselle battled to a 3-3 tie before succumbing in extra innings, knocked off perennial power DeSales in a battle of private schools in the 2B title game. DeSales has now won 17 of the last 21 state baseball crowns in their classification and finished second on two other occasions during that stretch.
