YAKIMA - Tilth Producers, Washington state's non-profit association of organic and sustainable farmers, announced the theme for this year's annual conference, "The Family Farm on the Cutting Edge." The conference will be held at the Yakima Convention Center Nov. 8-10. All are welcome; over 300 farmers and agricultural partners are expected.

John Ikerd, respected social economist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Missouri, will give the keynote address on the critical role of sustainable family farms in the future of our national and global systems.

Over 30 informative workshops with Washington's leading organic farmers and researchers will be offered. These include a special track for fruit growers based in Washington's fertile agricultural valleys with speakers Harold Ostenson of Pac Organic Fruit, WSU Small Farm Program's David Muehleisen, WSU's David James, Phil Unterschuetz of Integrated Fertility Management, Robert and Carol Norton of Wenatchee's Applecorps, and USDA's Alan Knight.
