OCEAN SHORES - "North Beach is a very good team. They outplayed us in every aspect of the game," Naselle Coach Brian Macy said. "We didn't play well, didn't shoot well; in fact we didn't do much of anything well tonight."

Nathan Sultemeier scored a game-high 26 points for the Comets, but it wasn't enough as Naselle fell to North Beach 73-58 in a Pacific 2B League basketball game in Ocean Shores Thursday.

Naselle was in the game until a monster third period helped the Hyaks pull ahead. The game was tied at 14-14 after one frame and North Beach pulled ahead 35-32 at intermission, before blasting to a 25-9 third period to effectively put the contest away.

Macy said, "North Beach came out in the third period and hit a couple of three's and then their press got them a couple of easy transition baskets and we didn't get back in it. We tried several different combinations of players, but other than Nate shooting very well and Gabe See contributing off the bench, we were flat." Sultemeier connected on six shots from beyond the arc and See scored four points and pulled down five rebounds.

Drew Macy led the Comets with a season-high 11 boards and Sultemeier, Nick Hines and Austin Burkhalter each had three assists. Burkhalter scored nine points, Macy and Conor Smith eight, and Hines added three as only six Comets scored. Jamaal Lind and Russell Alfaro each scored seven points and Derek Moore made two treys in the decisive third period. Alfaro finished with 19, Lind 18 and Moore with 11, while Jake Ray scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Hyaks.

Naselle turned the basketball over 21 times and was out-rebounded 40-35. The Comets connected on 22-53 from the field (42 percent) and made a mere 4-8 from the line, while the Hyaks were 29-62 from the floor (47 percent) and sank 10-16 from the stripe (63 percent).

The Comets are now 8-2 on the year and 3-1 in the Pacific League, while North Beach is 9-3 and also 3-1 in league play after a 51-41 win at Northwest Christian Friday. Naselle won both the junior varsity and C-squad contests.
