ILWACO - The Timberwolves tore open a 20-6 lead after one period and Ilwaco would get no closer until the end of the third period. Morton-White Pass then extended the lead to as many as 23 in the fourth period on their way to a 71-49 win over the Fishermen in the championship game of the Ilwaco Christmas Tournament Wednesday, Dec. 29.

Karl Oman led Ilwaco with 14 points and dished out four assists, while Kyle Breckinridge scored 11 and pulled down nine rebounds before fouling out. Patrick Whealdon popped in nine points before twisting his ankle and he pilfered four steals. Ryan Kukula added eight points, Bobby Byrd four, Austin Wirkkala a pair, and Clark Wilson his first varsity point this season.

"We ran into a deeper, bigger, stronger team and it was one of those nights when we just got beat. They stuck 10 three-pointers and we sank four," Coach Kip Meinhardt said. "I was pleased with our effort, but we didn't shoot well against a talented team."

Ilwaco was 19-53 from the field for only 36 percent and made 7-15 from the line for a meager 47 percent, while MWP was 23-53 from the floor for 43 percent and 15-18 from the charity stripe for a sizzling 83 percent. The T-Wolves out-rebounded Ilwaco 37-32 and turnovers were even at 11 each. Ilwaco was whistled for 15 fouls to 13 for MWP.

Ilwaco is now 6-2 on the year, while Morton-White Pass improves to 6-3 overall.
