MOUNT BAKER - Naselle cross country teams made a weekend of it, traveling to far off Mount Baker and competing in the junior varsity classification of a gigantic meet Saturday.

The girls team scored 268 points and finished 12th. The boys tallied 529 points and came in 18th. There were over 60 teams and 1,500 runners in seven races, according to Coach Ryan Bjornsgard.

"We were the only class B team in the meet, and there were only a couple of class A teams, so we entered in the JV races. Some schools had as many as 40 or 50 runners," said Bjornsgard of the huge meet.

The girls race had over 200 runners and freshman Comette, Erin Saari finished 40th in 23:17 over the 2.97 mile course located west of Bellingham. Reese Moore claimed 43rd in 23:21 and Jenny Klinger scooted home in 53rd place in 23:54.

Annie Herrold toured the course in 25:30 and placed 94th, Katie Klinger sailed home in 125th (26:45), followed by Kristina Chism in 136th (27:14), and Sunny Trent in 167th (32:22).

The leader for the Comets was Evan Hendrickson in 105th place with a time of 19:53. Keegan McGuire was close behind in 144th in 20:31 and Tony Mendoza placed 191st with a time of 21:40.
