ILWACO - "This is getting as bad as the meningitis outbreak as far as changes in the sports schedule are concerned," said Ilwaco High School Athletic Director Matt Blair Friday referring to the ice storm that hit western Washington and Oregon the first week of January. A total of eight athletic contests were not held due to the inclement weather.

Three girls and two boys basketball games were postponed during that time frame. Two wrestling matches were canceled, and one rescheduled due to the snow and ice. Both varsity teams will travel to LaCenter Jan. 14, and the boys and girls teams will host the Wildcats Jan. 29 in Ilwaco.

Stevenson will come to Aase Gymnasium Friday, Jan. 16 for varsity games only, and both Fishermen varsity squads are scheduled to visit White Salmon Saturday, Jan. 17. No word was given about whether the four junior varsity games against LaCenter would be played. There will be no JV action against Stevenson or White Salmon.

The league wrestling contest with LaCenter will be made up as part of a double-dual match at Castle Rock Jan. 15 between the Fishermen, Rockets, and Wildcats. The wrestling tournament at Washougal Jan. 3 was also canceled due to weather.

The basketball teams will experience an 18-day layoff as their next scheduled games are at White Salmon for both boys and girls teams Jan. 17. The girls are slated to tip off at 3 p.m., with the boys' contest to follow.

Blair was hopeful the schedule could be revamped by the middle of next week.

"In the meantime, we'll do lots of scouting of other teams," said Blair, who is also the coach of the boys basketball team.

Weather permitting, of course.
