TACOMA - Ross and Ryan Kukula of Ocean Park and Patrick and Jack Whealdon of Ilwaco all finished in the top four places at the sub-district Washington State Junior Golf Tournament at Tacoma Country Club June 21.

Patrick Whealdon had the best finish of the local juniors as he finished first with a 46 for nine holes. Ryan Kukula was second with a 47 and Ross Kukula was fourth with a 54. Bobby Byrd of Chinook shot a 59, good for seventh place.

Jack Whealdon shot an 85 for 18-holes in the 12-13-year-old age division. Other local golfers included Todd Oakes, who placed 10th with a 97, and Adam Bundy, who shot a 111, good for 14th. In the 16-17 year-old age group, Michael Lambert of Ocean Park shot a 91.

All junior golfers have four chances in sub-district play to advance to the district tournament on July 19-20 at Bayshore Golf Club in Shelton. Players must finish in the top six places in the 8-11 and 12-13 year-old age groups or in the top 12 places of the 16-17 year-old age division.

WJGA play continues June 28 at Longview Country Club for local junior golfers. Three Rivers Golf Course in Longview will be the site for a tournament July 8. The Highlands in Cosmopolis will host the final sub-district WJGA event on June 12.

District play will be held on July 19-20. The WJGA State Championship will be hosted by Mill Creek in Bothel and Everett Country Clubs from July 27-30.
