ILWACO - Dan Whealdon, Ilwaco golf coach, has resigned as girls' coach, but will continue in his role as coach of the boys' team.

"I'm up to my eyeballs with real estate work," Whealdon explained. "I will be able to concentrate on the boys' team, but will also help with the girls' golf team as a volunteer assistant."

The Fishermen boys' golf team competed in the fall and qualified Jack Whealdon (Dan's son) and Todd Oakes for the state tournament. "We will host Life Christian and Jack and Todd will also go to a 36-hole tournament for golfers who have qualified for state and that will be in Mount Vernon," Dan said of his duties in the spring. Those two events will help Jack Whealdon and Oakes to prepare for the state golf tournament.

The entire girls' golf season for the Lady Fishermen will be held in the spring instead of being split as the boys' season is and District IV will follow that format next school year, as well.

"I may coach both boys and girls golf in the future if they again combine the two seasons. It depends on reclassification," Whealdon said Saturday. The WIAA will complete reclassification of every school in the state at the end of the 2008 school year and the results will be announced during that summer.
