ILWACO - "Courtney Gilgore pitched a great game," Assistant Coach Randy Bloom said of the sophomore right-hander. "It was her best game ever."
Unfortunately Lady Panther Kayla Ashe was just a little bit better as she didn't allow a hit until the final inning and her defense was flawless on the day. Ilwaco made two critical errors in the second frame that allowed two unearned runs to cross home plate.
White Pass added an insurance run in the fourth when they smacked their only hit of the contest off Gilgore. Ilwaco scored in the bottom of the seventh when Carly Taylor worked Ashe for a walk and was chased home by Ashley Garrett's double to center field.
Bloom, filling in for Rick Bishop who was at a teachers' conference, said, "We played hard as a team." He had praise for the glove work of Anna Kitzman at third base and for Melany Bliss in left field. Ilwaco is now 0-3 in the Southwest Washington 1A League.
